There is also a question as to whether the air bag may have deployed inadvertently and caused the accident. Recall #04v551000 was issued december 2004.

Takata recall. Our son was involved in an accident with an 18-wheeler on an interstate highway as a front-seat passenger in our 2004 accord last week and his airbag did not deploy but the driver-side bag did deploy and caused harm to the driver who wound up having his lip sewn back together.
